Campaigning for the third phase of polling which saw
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP President Amit Shah, Congress Vice
President Rahul Gandhi wooing voters, ended on Sunday Dec 07,2014.
14 of the
17 constituencies going to the polls are Maoist-affected.The Maoist-hit constiutencies are Kodarma, Barkatha, Barhi, Barkagaon,
Ramgarh, Mandu, Hazaribagh, Simaria (SC), Dhanwar, Gomia, Bermo,
Ichagarh, Silli and Khijri (ST) and are spread over Ranchi, Hazaribagh,
Bokaro, Chatra, Seraikella/ Kharsawan, Ramgarh, Kodarma and Giridih
districts
Polling will end at 3 PM in 14 constituencies and continue till 5 PM in Ranchi, Hatia and Kanke constituencies.
The constituencies going to the poll are: Kodarma, Barkatha, Barhi,
Barkagaon, Ramgarh, Mandu, Hazaribagh, Simaria (SC), Dhanwar, Gomia,
Bermo, Ichagarh, Silli, Khijri (ST), Ranchi, Hatia and Kanke (SC). They
are spread over eight districts - Ranchi, Hazaribagh, Bokaro, Chatra,
Seraikella/Kharsawan, Ramgarh
A total 289 candidates, including eight sitting MLAs, 26 women and 103 independents are in the fray in the third phase
The ruling JMM is contesting alone in 16 of the 17 seats and supporting an
independent in Dhanwar seat after the nomination of the MLA from the
seat in the outgoing House, Nizzamuddin Ansari was rejected by EC
following his conviction in a murder case. Ansari had quit JVM and had
filed papers as a JMM candidate.
BJP and Ajsu party, which are in alliance, have put up 14 and three
candidates respectively.

Hatia has the maximum 29 contestants and Silli the lowest number of 11 nominees
Amid tight security, nearly 13 % of the electorate exercised
their franchise in the first two hours of polling till 9AM in 17
constituencies spread across eight districts of Jharkhand today.While Koderma recorded the maximum 16.90 % voting in the first
two hours, Barkagaon constituency witnessed the minimum at 7.60 %, polling officials said.
Urging the
people of Jharkhand to elect a stable government, Prime Minister
Narendra Modi on Tuesday Dec 09,2014 said the Opposition has run out of issues, and
asked voters to give a decisive mandate to the Bharatiya Janata Party
(BJP) to ensure the state's speedy development.
Addressing a rally in Dhanbad, Modi asked the people not to hand over power in the hands of thekedars (brokers).
“These
days, leaders of opposition parties are very upset. They have to
campaign for the sake of their survival. But they don’t have any issues
against the Modi government. They are repeating speeches made during the
Lok Sabha elections. There is bankruptcy of issues,” the PM said.
