The 4- day long strike by unions of State Transport Corporations' (STC) employees has been called off.
The decision was taken at a meeting between Transport Minister V.
Senthil Balaji and leaders of the unions at Secretariat on Wednesday.
The meeting lasted nearly 45 minutes.
The government has agreed to constitute a committee to hold negotiations
on wage revision with representatives of the unions. The talks would be
held in the presence of the Transport Minister. The panel would include
managing directors of all the eight STCs.
The unions' leaders said their demand for the withdrawal of cases
against some employees had also been conceded while a government
official said the demand would be considered.
Twelve unions took part in the meeting and Labour Progressive Federation
(LPF), CITU and the Anna Thozhirsanga Peravai (ATP) were among them.
