Sachin Tendulkar(India)Named 'Cricketer of the Generation' by website ESPNCricinfo Friday March 14,2014



Sachin Tendulkar was on Friday March 14,2014 voted Cricketer of the Generation as he staved off stiff competition from spin legend Shane Warne and all-rounder par excellence Jacques Kallis.



The award, given by website ESPNCricinfo is meant to honour the most outstanding cricketer between the years 1993 and 2013, and the occasion also marked its 20th anniversary.

"I am speechless, honestly," said Tendulkar after receiving the award. "When Martin (Crowe) and Rahul (Dravid) both spoke about me, I didn't know how to react."
 
Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma won the annual awards for best batting performances in Tests and ODIs, while Mitchell Johnson and Shahid Afridi bagged the top prize in Test bowling and ODI bowling respectively
 
Shikhar Dhawan slammed the fastest century as a debutant, hitting 187 against Australia in Mohali in 2013. 
 
 
 
 
 
Rohit Sharma won the award for his 209 against Australia in Bangalore in Nov 2013
 
 
 
Mitchell Johnson was awarded for his match-winning spell of 7 for 40 on a flat wicket in Adelaide against England in the 2014 Ashes series.

Shahid Afridi scored 76 and claimed seven wickets for 12 to help Pakistan claim the match by 126 runs.

Pakistan's 126-run triumph is their biggest in terms of runs against the West Indies in the Caribbean in ODIs - their third biggest against the West Indies, next only to the 138-run victory on October 19, 1999 and 130-run win on October 14, 1999 - both at Sharjah.

Shahid Afridi (7/12) has produced his best bowling performance in ODIs, outstripping the six for 38 vs Australia at Dubai (DSC) on April 22, 2009.

 

Shahid Afridi's figures are the best by a Pakistani bowler in ODIs and the second best in the history, next only to Chaminda Vaas' 8 for 19 for Sri Lanka vs Zimbabwe at Colombo, SSC on December 8, 2001.

 
Indian pacer Mohammad Shami was adjudged the best debutant that was voted by the fans
 
 
 Tarak Sinha got the award for contribution to cricket that was decided by a panel headed by Dravid. He was recognised for producing 11 internationals and over 100 first-class cricketers.
 
Rahul Dravid got the Cricket for Good award for his support to other sports and taking up the role of mentor for India's Olympic prospects
