The Election Commission of India(ECI) on Friday March 14,2014 decided to extend the voting time by an hour for the Lok Sabha election this time. According to the new scheduled announced by the commission, the voting will take place for 11 hours from 7 am to 6 pm, instead of the existing 7am to 5 pm.
The commission said the timing has been changed to give more time to electorate and to encourage voter participation.
The commission, however, said that voting will close early in Naxal-affected areas and north eastern states.
