Crimea’s parliament on Monday March 17,2014 declared the region an independent state, after its residents voted overwhelmingly to break off from Ukraine and seek to join Russia.
In the same resolution, it said that all Ukrainian state property on the territory of the Black Sea peninsula will be nationalised and become the property of the Crimean Republic.
Crimea's separatist parliament on Monday introduced the Russian ruble as a second official currency alongside the Ukrainian hryvnia, after declaring independence following a referendum to break with Ukraine and join Russia.
The parliament said in a statement that the hryvnia could continue to be used in Crimea until January 1, 2016.
