The AIDMK fought the 1980 elections in the company of Janata party and this combine could win only 2
constituencies.

The DMK-Congress combine won 37 seats in the 1980 election

The AIADMK fought the 1984 elections in the company of Congress party and this combine could win 37 seats

The AIADMK fought the 1991 elections in the company of Congress party and this combine could win all 39seats

The DMK–the erstwhile Tamil Maanila Congress–CPI front made history by winning all the 39 seats in the 1996 election

DMK-led alliance comprising the Congress, the MDMK, the PMK, the CPI and the CPI (M) in the 2004 elections won all 39 seats

The DMK combine, including the Congress, the VCK and the IUML bagged 27 seats in 2009 elections

Note
The electoral combine led by the DMK drew a blank in 1991, while the front led by AIADMK was unable to win a single seat twice in 1996 and 2004 elections.

2014 Lok Sabha Election Phase 06 Thursday April 24,2014

39 Constituencies in Tamil Nadu that goes to polls in Phase 6 on April 24,2014 for the 2014 Lok Sabha Election

Keen battle on the cards as campaign ends in Tamil Nadu

As electioneering for the 39 Lok Sabha constituencies in Tamil Nadu and the lone seat in the Union Territory of Puducherry drew to a close on Tuesday April 22,2014, no overarching trend across the State is discernable. Neither a ‘Modi wave’ is perceptible, nor is there any big enthusiasm for the Dravidian majors.

Despite claims by the parties, it seems every seat will be fought on its own terms. The deciding factors include local issues, the alliance strength in constituencies, the popularity of candidates and the macro-economic issues such as power cut, caste and religious considerations, besides the mood of the minorities and the Dalits

The battle in many constituencies seems a DMK-AIADMK fight ,nonetheless, the presence of the PMK, the DMDK, and the MDMK in the BJP camp has enhanced the visibility of Narendra Modi, posing a challenge to the traditional Dravidian rivals

For the first time in the State, authorities have issued prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Cr.PC as part of the measures to ensure free and fair polling on April 24,2014

On Monday April 21,2014,AIADMK General Secretary and Chief Minister Jayalalithaa wound up her campaign, which snaked across the city, beginning at Kandhanchavadi on the IT Corridor, and concluding in the heart of the city at T. Nagar
