2014 Lok Sabha Election Phase 9 Tuesday May12,2014

Uttar Pradesh

The outcome of Uttar Pradesh's 18 Lok Sabha constituencies, which vote on May 12 in the last phase of the 2014 general elections, will be crucial in determining the country's fate for the next five years.
While all eyes are set on the battle royale in Varanasi featuring BJP PM candidate Narendra Modi and AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal, other big names like SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav (Azamgarh), Congress leader and Union minister RPN Singh (Kushinagar) and mafia-turned-politicians Mukhtar Ansari (Ghosi) and Dhananjay Singh (Jaunpur) are also in the fray.
Ansari and Singh are contesting as Quami Ekta Dal and Independent candidates, respectively.

The voters in this eastern region of Uttar Pradesh of the 18 seats are mostly dominated by OBCs, minorities, Dalits and Brahmins. Together, they comprise 85 per cent of the over three crore electorate. The remaining 15 per cent is formed of other castes.
The eighteen seats, which have 328 candidates in the poll fray, are Domariyaganj, Maharajganj, Gorakhpur, Kushinagar, Deoria, Bansgaon, Lalganj, Ghosi, Azamgarh, Salempur, Ballia, Jaunpur, Machhlishahar, Gazipur, Chandauli, Varanasi, Mirzapur and Robertsganj.
Traditionally, eastern UP is the stronghold of the Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party. But this time, the BJP is eyeing more seats by polarising the upper castes, the OBCs and a section of Dalit voters.

Of the 18 seats, the SP had won six, BSP five, BJP four and Congress three in 2009. The BSP had come second in 12 seats.

West Bengal

Asmany as 17 Lok Sabha constituencies in West Bengal's southern districts are set to go to the polls on Monday (today) to determine the fate of 188 candidates.
The 17 seats that vote today are Berhampore, Krishnanagar, Ranaghat, Bongaon, Barrackpore, Dum Dum, Barasat, Basirhat, Jaynagar, Mathurapur, Diamond Harbour, Jadavpur, Kolkata (South), Kolkata (North), Tamluk, Contai and Ghatal.
The final phase is going to be crucial for the incumbent Trinamool Congress as they would try to retain all the 14 LS seats they had won in 2009.
These 17 seats cover the districts of Kolkata, North 24-Parganas, South 24-Parganas, East Midnapore and Nadia

Bihar

Over 85 lakh voters will exercise their franchise at 8,379 polling stations in the six constituencies going to the polls in the sixth and final phase of Lok Sabha elections in Bihar on Monday.
The polling will be held in Valmiki Nagar, Purbi Champaran, Paschim Champaran, Siwan, Gopalganj and Vaishali constituencies amid tight security. As many as 90 candidates, including five women, are in the fray.

In the 2009 polls, the ruling JD(U) and the BJP had won two seats each while the RJD had won one seat. An Independent, Om Prakash Yadav, had won the Siwan seat, but this time, he is fighting on a BJP ticket.
