The Best of Sachin Tendulkar's ODI Knocks
1)200* vs South Africa, 2010 Gwalior
Sachin Tendulkar got to the historic landmark which no other batsman had achieved earlier - the first double hundred in ODI history. Tendulkar, 36 then, cramped up when he crossed 150, but he didn't ask for a runner and continued his way to 200 smashing 4x25and 6x3 during his 147 balls knock
2)175 vs Australia, 2009, Hyderabad
Chasing a mammoth score of 351, Tendulkar played another solo innings. But when the target was in sight, he got out and the rest of the batting choked. Just like the 90s, he carried the Indian innings on his shoulders, playing a knock of individual brilliance, hitting 4x19 and 6x4 in just 141 balls
3)143 vs Australia, 1997-98 Sharjah
This innings must have been etched in the memory of lakhs of fans as India had given a revised target of 276 to win and 237 to qualify for the final after a dust storm set in over the stadium that accounted for four overs. Tendulkar kept the Indian chase on course, playing one of the most remarkable innings of ODI hitting 4x9 and 6x5 in 131 balls.
4)134 vs Aus, 1997-98 Sharjah
After helping India reach the final, Tendulkar struck another century, his 15th in one-day cricket, to help his side overhaul Australia's challenging total of 272. And just like his previous knock, 143, in the lead up to the final, he once again took 131 balls and hit 4x12 and 6x3
5)120 vs England, 2011 World Cup in Bangalore
Sachin's knock (ten fours and five sixes) helped India put up a massive score of 338, which looked set to be chased down by England, thanks to 158 by skipper Andrew Strauss. But the departure of Strauss saw India clawing their way back and managing to tie the contest
6)98 vs Pakistan, 2003 World Cup:
India needed a quick start to chase down a demanding total of 273 against Pakistan, and the task was not an easy one as the bowlers they had to face were Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis and Shoaib Akhtar. But Tendulkar not only provided the breezy start, but also set the perfect platform for the lower order batsmen. His 98 came in 75 balls and included 4x12 and 6x1
7)140* vs Kenya, 1999 World Cup in Bristol
Sachin's knock from the fact that he had returned from his father's funeral the day before the encounter. He began cautiously, but accelerated after getting each landmark to bring up his 22nd one-day international century (4x16 and 6x3) and his first when he was not opening.
8)141 vs Pakistan, 2003-04 Rawalpindi
Although his innings of 141 didn't help India getting the Pakistan's total of 329, it once again established the fact that how much dependent India had been on Tendulkar. When he got out, India were firmly placed in their chase, needing another 85 in 68 balls, but like so many occasions in the past, Indian middle-order crumbled as they faced a 12-run defeat.
9) 163* vs New Zealand, 2008-09 Christchurch
Tendulkar's unbeaten 163, India posted a mammoth 392 in their innings. But New Zealand too fought hard, going down by just 58 runs in the end. Tendulkar had faced 133 balls and cracked 4x16 and 6x1 before he got retired hurt
10) 120 vs Sri Lanka, 1999 Colombo
Tendulkar displayed an array of his attacking strokes to help India post 296. His 141 balls knock included 4x11 and 6x2. Along with adding 75 for the opening wicket with Sadgopan Ramesh, Tendulkar also strung 127 with Sourav Ganguly for the fourth wicket to enable India win the match by 23 runs
Comments on Sachin Tendulkar's Retirement
Sourav Ganguly: I felt that he [Sachin] might have played the series against Pakistan. But it is his decision and I think it is the right.
Kris Srikkanth: I am surprised by his move but he is leaving ODI cricket on a high.
Dilip Vengsarkar: Actually I am surprised. If he is continuing with international cricket (Test) then he should have continued with ODI also
Kirti Azad: I think he has obliged Indian cricket by retiring. The god has ultimately decided.
W V Raman: Obviously an era has come to an end as he has chosen to make a quite exit from one day scene.
