Heavy rain and strong winds lifted water levels almost five feet leaving more than two-thirds of the city under water.
Around 70 % of Venice was flooded after days of relentless rainfall in
a particularly severe ‘Acqua Alta’ or high water season with levels among
the highest ever recorded, city officials said .
Sea levels reached 1.5 metre (5ft) marking the sixth highest water level since 1872.The red alert we issued last Friday is still in place.The bad weather is said to be heading slowly towards the centre of the country and is set to hit Rome.
