Israel's Air-Attacks in Gaza


Gaza Strip
Gaza , also referred to as Gaza City, is a Palestnian City in the Gaza Strip with a population of about 450,000, making it the largest city in the Palestinian Territories.Gaza is 78 kilometres (48 mi) Southwest of Jerusalem, 71 kilometres (44 mi) south of Tel Aviv, and 30 kilometres (19 mi) north of Rafah.The population of Gaza is overwhelmingly composed of Muslims following Sunni Islam.
Gaza was occupied by Israel during the 1967 6-Day War  following the defeat of the Egyptian Army . Frequent conflicts have erupted between Palestinians and the Israeli authorities in the city since the 1970s


The Gaza Strip is a coastal strip of land on the eastern shore of the Mediterranean Sea bordering Egypt and Israel. Israel controls Gaza's airspace and territorial waters and restricts the movement of people or goods in or out of Gaza The legal status of the Gaza strip is disputed.

Between 2005 and 2007, Palestinian groups in Gaza fired about 2,700 locally made Qassam rockets into Israel, killing four Israeli civilians and injuring 75 others. During the same period, Israel fired more than 14,600 155 mm artillery shells into the Gaza Strip, killing 59 Palestinians and injuring 270.

The Gaza War, in Israel known as 'Operation Cast Lead' and in Gaza and by Hamas known as the 'Gaza Massacre' was a three-week armed conflict that took place in the Gaza Strip during the winter of 2008–2009, which started  on Dec 27, 2008.The conflict resulted in between 1,166 and 1,417 Palestinian and 13 Israeli deaths.

On Jan 17,2009 Israeli officials announced a Unilateral Ceasefire . Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert  declared the ceasefire effective that night, at 00:00 GMT on January 18.The ceasefire consisted of two phases: "First a ceasefire is declared. If Hamas stops firing rockets then Israel pulls its forces out of the Gaza Strip.

Egyptian mediators held discussions with Israel and Hamas about extending the cease-fire by a year or more.

In September 2009, a UN Special Mission, Headed by the South African Justice Richard Goldstone,  produced a Controversial Report accusing both Palestinian militants and Israeli Defense Forces of war crimes and possible crimes against humanity, and recommended bringing those responsible to justice.

At least 30 Palestinians and three Israelis have died since Israel killed Hamas's military chief on Wednesday Nov 14,2012.The group's military leader Ahmed Jabari was killed by an Israeli air strike on Wednesday. A senior commander was killed on Nov 16,2012 Friday, officials said.

Militants and civilians, including at least 7 children, have been among the Palestinians killed during the Israeli bombardment, Hamas says

Israel's army says the operation - codenamed Pillar of Defence - has hit more than 800 sites in Gaza, including underground rocket launchers & infrastructure.

It said some 550 rockets had been fired into Israel from Gaza since Nov 14,2012 Wednesday, a quarter of which had been intercepted by its radar defence system - Iron Dome.

Militants in Gaza have continued to fire rockets into Israel, aiming at Tel Aviv and Jerusalem on Nov 16,2012 Friday.

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has accused Israel of carrying out "massacres".


Western leaders and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon have appealed for both sides to stop the escalation in violence.

Called by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Friday, US President Barack Obama reiterated his country's support for Israel's "right to defend itself".


Israel blocked access to three major routes leading into Gaza on Nov 16,2012 Friday; call-up papers have already been sent to 16,000 Israeli reservists, with officials authorising the mobilisation of another 75,000

Egypt condemns Israel's air strikes on Gaza

The Egyptian President,Mohamed Morsi, has denounced the Israeli assault on the Gaza Strip as "a blatant aggression against humanity" and vowed Cairo "would not leave Gaza on its own".
His remarks on Friday came amid growing public anger in Egypt  over Israel's  military operation targeting Gaza, which was condemned in speeches in mosques and demonstrations.


Israel Air Strikes hit Hamas Headquarters


Israeli air strikes hit the cabinet headquarters of Gaza'sHamas Govt. on Nov 17,2012 Saturday after militants fired rockets at Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.The Hamas government said its cabinet headquarters was targeted with four strikes, and witnesses reported extensive damage to the building.
