Bus Fares Hiked in Kerala


The Cabinet on Wednesday Nov 7,2012 decided to hike bus fares by three to ten paise per kilometre. 

  • The minimum fare for ordinary service will go up by Re.1 (from Rs.5 to Rs.6). 
  • The minimum fare for city and town services will increase from Rs.7 to Rs.8 and that for superfast services from Rs.10 to Rs.12.
  • The new minimum fares for super express and super deluxe buses will be Rs.17 and Rs.25 against the current rates of Rs.15 and Rs.20 respectively. 
  • The minimum fare for luxury and Volvo buses, which is Rs.30 now, will go up by Rs.5.
  • The minimum fare for students will be increased from 50 paise to Re.1. 

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy told the media after a Cabinet meeting that the hike was decided accepting the recommendations of the Ramachandran committee which studied the need for revision of fares.
