The England Cricket Team led by Alastair Cook, along with the support staff, arrived early on Monday Oct 29,2012 for a series of  4 Test matches and 2 T20 Internationals and 5 ODI's against  India.

Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh and Murali Vijay have been recalled to India's Test team for the first time in over a year as the new BCCI selection committee named a 15-man squad for the first two matches against England

Day One
India were 120 for no loss at lunch in their opening Test of the four-match series against England at Sardar Patel Stadium in Ahmedabad on Thursday. Gambhir was batting on 37 while V Sehwag was on 79,their 11th century partnership.
Earlier, India won the toss and decided to bat in the first Test of the four Test match series.
Virender Sehwag scored Century No. 23 , first for two years(22nd ton was scored in Ahmedabad in Dec 2010) and second against England since 2002 and finally got out for 117(in 117 Balls with 15 X 4 and 1x6)

  • Alistair Cook (168 batting, 505m, 341b, 20x4) led from the front showing a stout heart, immense resolve and steady nerves to stretch the confrontation against the Indian attack right through Sunday and achieved the objective of England avoiding the ignominy of defeat by an innings. Matt Prior (84 batting, 203m, 190b, 10x4) shared the responsibility with the captain for nearly three and half hours. 
  • So far Cook and Prior have added 141 runs to put England up by 10 runs with five wickets in hand.
  • Alistair Cook's  hundred was his 3rd against India and the 21st of his career and also became the only cricketer to score 3 hundreds in his first three Tests as skipper(other two hundreds came against Bangladesh in Chittagong and Mirpur)
  • It is also his 6th score of 150 or more. 
  • Alistair Cook becomes the 5th England captain to score a century in India and his176 is also the highest score by an England Captain in India. 
  • Alistair Cook Cook is now joint second on the list of England batsmen with most centuries. Wally Hammond, Colin Cowdrey and Geoff Boycott are on top with 22 centuries each
