First Human to Journey into outer space

Yuri Alekseyevich Gagarin(Russian) was the first human to journey into outer space when his Vostok spacecraft completed an orbit of the Earth on April 12, 1961

50th anniversary

Today April 12, 2011 is the 50th anniversary of Gagarin's travel into space.

A film, entitled First Orbit was created to mark the 50th anniversary. Footage was shot from the International Space Station 

Expedition 27 crew aboard the International Space Station sent a special video message to the world to wish them a Happy Yuri's Night on the occasion of the 50th anniversary

In honor of Yuri's historic flight, the Australian Space Alliance (ASA) was officially launched on April 12, 2011
