The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is caught in a catch-22 situation, being faced with stiff opposition to the construction of Kerala’s first clover-leaf flyover at the busy Cheranallore Junction where Container Road intersects NH 66.
The junction is among the busiest on the Mumbai-Kanyakumari NH 66, which runs along Kerala’s western coast and is slated for widening to 45 metres. It is also located on the 30-km-long Edappally-Muthakunnam stretch where opposition to land acquisition for widening the highway is severe.
The stand-off over the proposed clover-leaf structure has come at a time when the NHAI is getting ready to lay boundary stones in Ernakulam district to widen the entire NH corridor up to Kasaragod and build flyovers at major junctions.
