Justice Ranjan Gogoi was on Thursday Sep 13,2018 appointed by the President as
the next Chief Justice of India (CJI), becoming the first from northeast
to hold the top judicial post.
Justice Gogoi, who will be the 46th chief justice of India, will be sworn in October 3, a day after incumbent Chief Justice Dipak Misra retires.
The new CJI, who has delivered many key judgments including on the National Register of Citizens in Assam, will hold the post till November 17, 2019.
