Every time the FIFA World Cup is played, there are a bunch of players who are often considered favourites to grace the extravaganza but to the surprise and shock of fans and themselves, they are not chosen in their respective national squads by the coaches.
Here is a list of 5 top strikers who won't be playing at the World Cup despite their countries qualifying for the mega tournament.
1)Inter Milan's captain Mauro Icardi had a wonderful season with the club, scoring 29 goals which was joint highest in the league.
But his brilliant goal-scoring form wasn't enough for the striker to land himself a berth in Argentina's World Cup squad
2)Alexander Lacazette had an average season for Arsenal and that resulted in him failing to make it to Didier Deschamps' 23-man squad for the World Cup
3)Pedro, who has not been in the scheme of things for the national side ever since the rise of young strikers, is another big name casualty. He along with Morata will have to watch La Roja play in Russia 2018 from home
4)Martial had a topsy-turvy season with Manchester United and that led to him failing to make it to the France squad for the World Cup
5)Alvaro Morata was a high profile exclusion from the 23-man Spain squad announced for the World Cup by coach Julen Lopetegui. Morata's season leading up to the World Cup with Chelsea was marred by a long absence due to injury and below par performances.
