1)Alex Sandro was another surprise exclusin from the Brazil squad with the full-back having a sensational season with Juventus and also being linked with big money moves away from the club. Fagner, Danilio, Marcelo and Filipe Luis are among the full-backs coach Tite has included in the squad
2)Chris Smalling missed out with Gareth Southgate raising doubts about his ability of playing from the back. Smalling also had a poor season for Manchester United.
3)David Luiz was one of the first names on the team-sheet during the 2014 World Cup, however, he fell out with Antonio Conte and saw his playing time limited in the later half of the season. He was dropped from the Brazil squad in November and has since never made it back into the reckoning.
4)Marcus Alonso had a phenomenal season for Chelsea, scoring from the set pieces as well as managing his defensive duties. He was even called up to the Spain squad, making his debut appearance and was expected to be in the 23-man squad
5)Manchester City's Aymeric Laporte was another defender who had a sensational season but finds himself missing in the World Cup squad. He is yet to make an appearance for France
