HD Kumaraswamy was born on December 16, 1959, in Haradanahalli, Hassan District. He attended primary school in the same district and finished high school from Bangalores MES Educational Institute in Jayanagar. He got his BSc degree from National College in Jayanagar, Bangalore after PUC from Vijaya College.

He married Anitha in 1986 with whom he has a son Nikhil Gowda. In 2006, Kumaraswamy married Kannada actress Radhika with whom he has a daughter Shamika K Swamy.

Political career

Kumaraswamy is the elder son of HD Deve Gowda, former Prime Minister of India. He has also served as the Chief Minister of the state (18th CM of Karnataka) from February 2006 to October 2007. He was selected to the 11th Lok Sabha in 1966. In 2009, he was re-elected to the 15th Lok Sabha for the second term.

He got the name of CD Kumara and Kumaranna as he exposed a number of corrupt activities by other political parties in Karnataka by releasing related audio and video CD evidence.
Post elections, HD Kumaraswamy Gowda was selected as the party leader in a meeting of the JD(S) MLAs in Bengaluru on May 16, 2018.
