Election Commission Of India(ECI)announces dates for Karnataka Assembly Election Tuesday March 27,2018

The Election Commission of India(ECI) Tuesday March 27,2018 announced elections to the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. The 224-member House expires on May 28 this year.

Karnataka will go to polls on May 12 and the counting of votes will take place three days later on May 15, the Election Commission announced on Tuesday March 27,2018

The notification for the polls will be issued on April 17 and the last date for filing of nomination will be April 24, Rawat said at a press conference. April 27 will be the last date of withdrawal of candidates, he added.

The Congress is currently in power in the state, with 122 seats against the BJP’s 43.

The Congress has picked incumbent Chief Minister Siddaramaiah as its CM face, while the BJP has nominated former CM B S Yeddyurappa.

Karnataka is one of the 8 states that go to polls this year — elections to three northeastern states were held last month.

Apart from Meghalaya, Tripura and Nagaland which saw elections last month, BJP-ruled states of Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Mizoram will also go to polls in the second half of this year.

The polls in these 8 states will set the tone for a bigger electoral event — the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
