Telangana Launches 'Hy-Fi' for Free Wi-Fi in Hyderabad Tuesday June 20,2017



In a step towards developing Hyderabad into a smart city, the Telangana government has launched "Hy-Fi", the Hyderabad City Wi-Fi project, which will cover the entire city. 

With 3000 hotspots spread across Hyderabad, the "Hy-Fi" project aims to deliver high speed internet connectivity to the citizens free of cost.

The hotspots will provide the user first 30 minutes free at 10 mbps speed. 

Launching the project Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation Mayor, Bonthu Ram Mohan said, "GHMC has always taken lead in implementing new-technology. The Wi-Fi will not only be useful to the local citizens, but also large number of tourists who visit Hyderabad." 

Jayesh Ranjan, IT Secretary, said, "IT ministry has been working on this ambitious project for last two years. This is for the first time in the country that entire city will be covered with high-speed internet. It’s the biggest project with 3000 hotspots.” 

The government plans to add more hotspots as per the requirements and aims to take the "Hy-Fi" projects to other cities in Telangana.
