Sourav Ganguly Presents Yuvraj Singh With Special Memento for 300th ODI

Yuvraj Singh was presented with a special memento from former India captain Sourav Ganguly ahead of the southpaw's 300th appearance for India in limited-overs cricket.

Ganguly played a key role in Yuvraj's rise as a player, and was captain of the Indian team when Yuvraj made his debut in 2000.

In fact, Yuvraj even rated Ganguly as a better captain than World Cup winner MS Dhoni, ""My favourite captain was Sourav Ganguly. I learnt a lot from him and my career flourished under him the most. He infused the feeling in us that we could win a series abroad."

Yuvraj's career prospered under Ganguly, who backed the left-handed Punjab batsman even when the chips were down. Yuvraj, Zaheer, Virender Sehwag and Harbhajan Singh formed the core of Ganguly's new India. For Yuvraj, Ganguly was more a friend than a strict captain. For the fun-loving Yuvi, the relationship worked perfectly.

Yuvraj, a 35-year old veteran of 299 one-day internationals is on the cusp of becoming only the fifth Indian cricketer to have played 300 ODIs. Yuvraj will follow the likes of Mohammed Azharuddin, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid to the landmark when he takes to the field against Bangladesh in the semi-final of the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy and stays as passionate about contributing to India's success as he was in his first match.

"It is a big achievement for me to complete 300 games for India. When I started playing I was just happy to play for the country. Been a long journey and there have been a few ups and downs. Not looking to do anything extraordinary, just contribute to the team's cause. The team is bigger than my landmark," Yuvraj said on the sidelines of Team India's practice session ahead of the semi-final against Bangladesh on Thursday June 15,2017
