2017 ICC Champions Trophy Match 03 Group B Sri Lanka Vs South Africa @ The Oval Saturday June 03,2017

South Africa have won eight of the last nine ODIs between these teams

Nuwan Kulasekara is one scalp short of completing 200 ODI wickets and becoming the fifth Sri Lanka bowler to the milestone

AB de Villiers, who has now played exactly 100 ODIs as captain, averages a monumental 66.33 when leading the team, with a strike rate of 110

When these teams last met in the Champions Trophy, in 2009 at Centurion, Sri Lanka won by 55 runs

South Africa begin their ICC Champions Trophy 2017 campaign at The Oval on Saturday by taking on a Sri Lanka side against whom they have already enjoyed overwhelming one-day international success this year.

The Proteas whitewashed Sri Lanka 5-0 in a bilateral series in South Africa in January
South Africa also boast the world’s number one-ranked ODI batsman and bowler in AB de Villiers and Kagiso Rabada respectively.
Sri Lanka head into the tournament as underdogs and one of the key reasons they’ve struggled in recent months has been the absence of fast bowler Lasith Malinga, who hasn’t played any ODI cricket since November 2015 due to a knee injury.
The return of Malinga, whose unorthodox, slingshot action makes him one of the most difficult bowlers to face in world cricket, would be a massive boost for Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka’s form ahead of the competition has been mediocre, given they have lost warm-up games to Australia, New Zealand and even Scotland.

Hashim Amla becomes first South African to 25 ODI centuries

Hashim Amla was in sublime touch at The Oval on Saturday June 03,2017 as the South African scored his 25th century in One-Day Internationals (ODI) against Sri Lanka in their ICC Champions Trophy 2017 opener
With this century, Hashim Amla became the first South African and sixth batsman overall to hit 25 or more hundreds in ODIs. Amla took 151 innings to score 25 centuries. It is 11 innings lesser than the next fastest. India’s Virat Kohli took 162 innings to score 25th hundred.
Amla’s 115-ball knock was a perfect example of the calm and poise as the Durban-born hit his second century of 2017 with the previous one (154) also being against Sri Lanka in February. In between, during the IPL, he hit two T20 centuries playing Kings XI Punjab.
Hasim Amla is now also the leading South African batsman when it comes to most ODI centuries, moving past AB de Villiers, who has 24.
