The Supreme Court of India(SCI)’s order on Tuesday Sep 20,2016 to release 6,000
cusecs of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu from September 21-27 has further
worsened the woes of Karnataka.
The Cauvery Supervisory Committee (CSC), under the
chairmanship of the Union Water Resources Secretary, on Monday Sep 19,2016 had
directed Karnataka to release 3,000 cusecs for 10 days from September
21-30.
The SCI on Tuesday Sep 20,2016 raised the quantum the fixed by the
CSC by another 3,000 cusecs.
Earlier on September 12,
2016 the SCI had ordered release of water from 10-15 days, while
reducing the quantum of release of water from 15,000 cusecs to 12,000
cusecs.
On September 5,2016 as an interim relief to Tamil Nadu, the SCI had
ordered Karnataka to release 15,000 cusecs for 10 days from September 6
SCI Directs the Centre to constitute CWMB within 4 weeks
The SCI has also asked the Centre to constitute the Cauvery Water Management Board (CWMB)within four weeks.
That apart, both Tamil Nadu and Karnataka can file objections to the Cauvery Supervisory Committee report in three days.
