2016 VIVO IPL Season 09 Match 44 RCB Vs GL - Virat Kohli breaks Indian run-record for a season Saturday May 14,2016


Virat Kohli went past Robin Uthappa's tally of 660, which was achieved in 2014 by the Kolkata Knight Riders' wicketkeeper-batsman, on Saturday May 14,2016 in the Match 44 of 2016 IPL against Gujarat Lions at Bangalore's M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Virat Kohli's  run of scores in the tournament read: 75, 79, 33, 80, 100*, 14, 52, 108*, 20, seven and now 109(55 Balls(4x5 and 6x8) which is Virat Kohli's second against Gujarat Lions.

Virat Kohli's  unbeaten century against them on April 24,2016 was his first in T20 cricket.

Now Virat Kohli  has three centuries in the span of a few weeks.

RCB, who need to win all of their remaining matches to stay in contention for the IPL playoffs, posted a mammoth 248/3 in 20 overs, with AB de Villiers unbeaten on 129 off 52 balls.

The second-wicket partnership between Virat Kohli 109(55 Balls(4x5 and 6x8)and AB de Villiers 129*(52 Balls 4x10 and 6x12)was 229 in 16 overs



AB de Villiers took only 43 balls to reach century which is the 5th fastest century in IPL. Fastest century is in 30 balls by Gayle vs PWI in 2013


AB de Villiers became the latest to join the list who have completed 3000+ Runs in IPL - 3rd overseas batsman after Gayle and Warner.

Note

The record for most runs in an IPL season remains the 733 that Chris Gayle and Michael Hussey achieved in 2012 and 2013 respectively.

Chris Gayle, Virat  Kohli's RCB team-mate, also scored 708 in 2013, which is the third most for a season

In the 2013 edition, Virat Kohli had made 634 in 16 games, his previous personal best.

Only three other batsmen have crossed 600 runs in an IPL season - Sachin Tendulkar (618 in 2010), Shaun Marsh (616 in 2008) and Gayle (608 in 2011).
