Eight more trains on Delhi Metro from today Monday August 03,2015

Delhi Metro will add eight more trains to its fleet on Monday August 03,2015 to cater to increased ridership during peak hours.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said the decision to add the trains was made because of a general trend of increased ridership in August and September over the past few years. The move is aimed at offering commuters respite during the rush hour.

Two trains each will be added to the Yellow Line, Blue Line and Violet Line, and one each will be added to the Red Line and Green Line.

“Keeping in view the expected increase in ridership, a study was carried out to prepare an operations plan to make sure that sufficient services were available for the commuters,” DMRC said in a statement.

“The trains will be added during the peak operational hours and the arrangement will continue for two months. The same may be continued later also depending on the requirement.”

The DMRC increased the number of coaches from 640 to 1,076 – an increase of almost 70% – across its network between 2010 and 2014. It carries about 2.5 million passengers a day.
