2018 World Cup qualifier match Guam Vs India Tuesday June 16,2015

 

Guam, a U.S. territory in the North Pacific Ocean with a population of little more than 170,000, scored twice to stun India - a team ranked 33 higher - in a 2018 World Cup qualifier match. 

Guam maintained their fairytale start to World Cup qualifying by beating India 2-1 at home on Tuesday June 16,2015 to jump to the top of Group D after their second win in a week.

Brandon McDonald and Travis Nicklaw scored the goals as the U.S. territory in the North Pacific Ocean with a population of little more than 170,000 followed up their first ever qualifying win on Thursday June 11,2015 against Turkmenistan  

India, boasting a population of 1.2 billion and long dubbed the sleeping giants of world football by FIFA, snatched a 93rd minute consolation when Sunil Chhetri bagged his 50th international goal but it was too little too late.

Former captain Bhaichung Bhutia stays at the second spot with 42 goals in 107 matches while IM Vijayan has 40 goals from 79 games. 



Guam, coached by Englishman Gary White, now have six points from two matches in the pool, ahead of Oman who beat India away on Thursday.
