Alastair Cook and England Coach Peter Moores have big decisions to make

The failure of England’s attack to take advantage of conditions made for them at Lord’s means there are question marks over the senior bowlers going into a match where the consequences of another defeat would not bear thinking about.

Peter Moores famously brought Jimmy Anderson and Stuart Broad into the England side at the expense of Steve Harmison and Matthew Hoggard in New Zealand during his first reign as coach and now he must decide whether the time is right to call time, at least temporarily, on one of the big two.

Chris Woakes (left) or Chris Jordan (right) could come into the side for the third Test

Neither James Anderson nor Stuart Broad are coming to the end of the line but, with three back-to-back Tests still to come, the time is surely right to freshen up the attack and allow Chris Jordan and Chris Woakes a chance to prove their worth.

The Ageas Bowl has only hosted one Test match before this against Sri Lanka during June 16-20,2011 and that match was drawn
Sri Lanka -184 & 334/5
England -377

Ian Bell dedicates century to his late grandfather
"It was for him. He was a massive influence on my cricket," said Bell.
"He took me to cricket when mum and dad were at work. You need helpful family to get you to all those junior games."
Ian Bell had gone 19 innings without a Test century, a run dating back to t he 4th Test of 2013 The Ashes  in which time he had managed only 476 runs at an of 26.44.

When Jos Buttler fell, England declared on 569-7, leaving India 14 overs to bat at the end of the day.

Gary Ballance raises his bat after hitting 150 for England in Southampton
Gary Ballance's 590 runs in his first 10 Test innings are the sixth most by an England player
England lost centurion Gary Ballance just before lunch on day two of the third Investec Test given out caught behind by MS Dhoni off Rohit Sharma for 156 by umpire Rod Tucker when replays clearly showed the ball missed his bat and flicked his back pad and now England are 355 for three
Joe Root didn't last long at all! The 128th over started with wides, which were met by the Ageas Bowl crowd with ironic cheers. They were silent, though, when Kumar's straight ball took a flick off the advancing Root's bat and went directly to wicketkeeper MS Dhoni.( Root c Dhoni b Kumar 3)
Resuming on 16, Ian Bell scored all around the wicket on a good batting surface, showing deft touch to play his trademark late cut and dishing out some heavy treatment to Ravindra Jadeja.
Three times, he danced down the track to loft the left-arm spinner for a straight six, the second of which brought up his century.
In one over bowled by Ravindra Jadeja, Ian Bell whacks TWO SIXES and TWO FOURS to get his CENTURY, brings England past 400 and passes 7000 TEST RUNS in the process
