The BJP Friday Jan 17,2020 announced its first list of 57 candidates for the Delhi assembly elections, scheduled to be held on February 8.

While 11 of the candidates belong to the Scheduled Caste community, four are women.

The names were announced by BJP leader Manoj Tiwari at a press conference in the national capital.

Among the prominent names in the list are Vijender Gupta, fielded by the party from Rohini; former AAP MLA Kapil Mishra from Model Town; Shikha Rai from Greater Kailash; Neeldaman Khatri from Narela; Surendra Singh Bittu from Timarpur; Vikram Bidhuri from Tughlakabad;  Suman Kumar Gupta from Chandni Chowk; Ashish Sood from Janakpuri; and Ravi Negi from Patparganj.

Ravi Negi will face Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia in Patparganj.

However, the BJP is yet to name its candidate against Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in New Delhi constituency

Two former deputy mayors and a senior leader in the BJP-led South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) are among the four women in the list of 57 candidates for the Assembly polls announced by the BJP on Friday Jan 17,2020

Greater Kailash candidate Shikha Rai is the former Leader of the House of the SDMC and an ex-chairperson of its Standing Committee.

Rekha Gupta, a former councillor and former Delhi BJP general secretary, will contest from Shalimar Bagh in northwest Delhi.

Lata Sodhi, who has been fielded from Ballimaran, is a former councillor. Her father-in-law Motilal Sodhi also represented the seat as an MLA.

Kiran Vaid, who will be in the fray from the Trilokpuri seat, is a sitting councillor and has also served as a deputy mayor of East Delhi. She had unsuccessfully contested the 2015 Assembly polls.
