A look at the records Kohli broke during his 37th ODI century
0
- Players getting to 10,000 ODI runs faster than Kohli. He's the
fastest to the milestone in terms of innings taken (205), balls faced
(10813) and days from debut (3270). 2- Kohli became the second youngest to the
milestone at 29 years & 353 days after Sachin Tendulkar who was
only 27 years & 341 days when he reached the milestone in Indore in
2001
2
- Players averaging 50-plus at the end of the innings after reaching
the 10,000-run milestone. Kohli's average stands at 59.62 after the
innings which is way ahead of the next placed MS Dhoni's 51.30 when he
went past the 10,000-run mark at Lord's earlier this year.
6
- Hundreds for Kohli against Windies in ODIs - the most by any player.
Kohli went past the South African trio of Herschelle Gibbs, Hashim Amla
and AB de Villiers who all had gone past the three-figure mark five
times each. Kohli has hit more centuries against one other opponent -
eight against Sri Lanka from 45 innings.
1684
- Runs for Kohli against Windies in 29 ODIs. He went past Tendulkar's
1573 runs from 39 ODIs against them to become the leading run-getter for
India against Windies in ODI cricket. He averages 70.16 against them
and in runs tally against Windies he is only behind Javed Miandad (1930)
and Mark Waugh (1708)
2 - Kohli became the second player to hit hundreds in three consecutive innings against Windies after Babar Azam in the Tri-Series in UAE in 2016.
Kohli scored an unbeaten 111 in Kingston last July in the last match of
the series and followed it up with 140 in the first ODI in Guwahati and
157* today. Kohli became the first player to hit hundreds in three
consecutive innings against two sides, having earlier done that against
Sri Lanka in 2012
11 -
Innings taken by Kohli to reach 1000 ODI runs in 2018 - the fewest
innings taken by any player to reach the 1000-run mark in a calendar
year. He broke the previous record held by Hashim Amla and himself, both
15 innings each, in 2010 and 2012 respectively. His scores this year
read: 112, 46*, 160*, 75, 36, 129*, 75, 45, 71, 140 & 157*.
6
- Instances of Kohli scoring 1000-plus runs in a calendar year in ODIs -
the joint second most for a player alongside Sourav Ganguly, Ricky
Ponting and Kumar Sangakkara. Only Tendulkar has done it more often in
ODIs - seven times.
4 -
This was the fourth instance of Kohli going past 150 in an innings in
ODIs. Only Rohit Sharma (six), Tendulkar (five) and David Warner (five)
have more such scores in ODIs while Sanath Jayasuriya, Chris Gayle and
Amla also have four each. Kohli is the second player to score 150-plus
twice while leading the side, after Andrew Strauss.
3
- Hundreds for Kohli at Vizag's ACA-VDCA stadium in just five innings.
His five ODI innings at the venue: 118, 117, 99, 65 & 157*. Only in
one other venue has he scored more ODI centuries - four in Mirpur (13
innings) - while he has scored three in Colombo RPS as well (eight
innings). He became the first Indian to hit five successive 50-plus
scores at a single venue in ODIs.
157* -
is the second highest individual score for India against Windies in
ODIs after Virender Sehwag's 219 in Indore in 2011. It also happens to
be the highest individual score in Vizag, surpassing MS Dhoni's 148
against Pakistan in the inaugural ODI at this venue in 2005.
78
- Innings taken by Kohli to reach 4000 runs in home ODIs - the fastest
by any player. AB de Villiers reached the mark in South Africa in 91
innings, which was the previous fastest while playing for South Africa
and the composite African XI. Tendulkar and Dhoni are the two players to
score 4000-plus in India, reaching there in 92 and 100 innings
respectively.
