2017 Sri Lanka Tour of India - Skipper Virat Kohli fourth quickest Indian to 5000 Test runs Saturday Dec 02,2017

Indian Skipeer Virat Kohli became the 11th Indian to score 5000 runs in Test cricket on Saturday Dec 02,2017 in the 3rd Test Vs Sri Lanka @ Feroz Shah Kotla,Delhi

Virat Kohli, playing in his 63rd Test, became the 11th Indian batsman to achieve the milestone, and that too in front of his home fans, when he reached 25 in India’s first innings

The India captain may have been in hot form in all formats in the last two years, but his Test stats make for more sobering analysis. After reaching the landmark in the first innings - the 105th innings of his career - at the Ferozeshah Kotla, he took the joint 14th spot in the list of fastest to that mark, alongside Neil Harvey of Australia and contemporary Joe Root.

Among Indians, he became the fourth fastest, behind Sunil Gavaskar (95 innings), Virender Sehwag (99 innings) and Sachin Tendulkar (103 innings)

Virat Kohli scored his 4000th run in his 89th innings, occupying a lowly 27th spot. This must be put in perspective, as contrary to many Test greats, Kohli has had a dull start to his Test career

Virat Kohli  is also the second quickest among Indian batsmen in terms of time. He needed 2,358 days to complete the feat after Rahul Dravid's 2,252 days. Sehwag is third at 2,464 days.

Virat Kohli   is also the second youngest to reach the 5,000-run mark among Indian bastmen at 29 years and 27 days. Tendulkar tops the list among Indians at 25 years and 301 days.
