yodhya kept its tryst with a new world record, lighting the maximum number of earthen lamps on the bank of the Saryu river on Wednesday Oct 18,2017
Team members of Guinness World Records, who captured the event by a camcopter, confirmed that 187,213 diyas were successfully lit at Ram Ki Paidi on the bank of the Saryu in the temple town. However, they were not willing to be named.
With this, the previous record set by the Dera Sacha Sauda was broken. The Dera Sacha Sauda of Ram Rahim had lit 150,009 earthen lamps on September 23 last year.
An event management company, Imagination, of Gujarat organised the spectacle at Ram Ki Paidi.
The company had deployed two of its observers at the ghat to monitor the event.
“At Ram Ki Paidi, 187, 213 diyas were lit, setting a world record. We have also recorded the entire event along with team members of Guinness World Records,” said Nischal Barot of Imagination
“A world record has been made, but the Guinness team will give the certificate later after verifying our details with theirs,” Barot added.
“It is a great moment for Ayodhya. On Diwali, with the blessings of Lord Ram, Ayodhya has set a new world record for lighting the maximum diyas,” said BJP MLA Ved Prakash Gupta.
Wednesday’s event was part of Diwali celebrations in Ayodhya.
The state tourism department played a key role in the event with the help of Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University, Faizabad.
The tourism department had planned to set a record by lighting 171,000 earthen lamps. For this, around 200,000 earthen lamps were placed on the stairs of Ram Ki Paidi.
Thousands of volunteers were roped in by the tourism department with the help of Avadh University for the feat. A large number of students and National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets were also mobilised for the mega event
