World Refugee Day - June 20

World Refugee Day is dedicated to raising awareness of the situation of the refugees throughout the world

On 4 December 2000, the United Nations General Assembly in Resolution 55/76 decided that, from 2001, 20 June would be celebrated as World Refugee Day

UNHCR released a report ahead of World Refugee Day stating that a record number of 65.6 Million people were forcibly displaced by war and conflict in 2016. This represents an increase of over 3,00,000 over 2015

According to a new report by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), a record 65.6 million people worldwide were forcibly displaced from their homes due to conflict or persecution by the end of 2016. The number marks a jump of 300,000 from the end of 2015. ‘This equates to one person becoming displaced every three seconds - less than the time it takes to read this sentence’ the United Nations report said.
