Bangladesh have always punched above their weights in high-profile ICC tournaments. Even in the ongoing edition of the 2017 Champions Trophy in England & Wales June 01-18,2017 they beat New Zealand to book a place in the last four of the tournament. Champions Trophy 2017: Bangladesh defeated New Zealand by 5 wickets
Nobody gave Bangladesh a chance when they took to the field against New Zealand in the Group A encounter. But the Tigers believed in themselves.
hey lost the toss and the Kiwis decided to bat first on a flat track in Cardiff. New Zealand were coasting along at 201/3 but then they lost their key batsman Ross Taylor. The wicket triggered a collapse of sorts as New Zealand were restricted to just 265.
The bowling effort gave Bangladesh hope but those hopes were dashed soon as New Zealand bowlers pegged them back with four early wickets. When everyone thought it was over for the men in green, Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah started to put together a decent partnership.
The partnership grew along with the confidence of the pair. By the time it ended, the duo had put on a partnership of 224 runs for the fifth wicket to take their side home.
Bangladesh were rewarded for this brilliant effort too as England beat Australia in the last Group encounter and the Tigers made it through to the semis.
World Cup 2015: Bangladesh beat England by 15 runs
England won the toss and put Bangladesh into bat at the Adelaide Oval. The Tigers got off to a very poor start as they lost their openers for just 8 but then Soumya Sarkar and Mahmudullah knit a brilliant partnership to bail their side out of trouble.
Even after Sarkar fell for 40, Mahmudullah carried on. He found a new partner in Mushfiqur Rahim who helped him get to his hundred. Rahim too contributed handsomely with 89 which helped them get to a fighting total of 275.
In reply England were astonishingly bowled out for 260 with Rubel Hossain bowling the spell of his life and picking up figures of 4/53.
World Cup 2011: Bangladesh beat England by two wickets
Bangladesh won the toss in this game and put England into bat which was a brave decision because of the flat batting wickets in India.
But from the very beginning, the Shakib Al Hasan led side kept chipping away at the wickets. Jonathan Trot and Eoin Morgan contributed with sturdy 60s but England were still bowled out for just 225.
Bangladesh started the chase well but lost their way in the middle. At one stage they were left struggling at 169/8, but then Shafiul Islam perhaps played the cameo of his life.
Islam scored an unbeaten 24 off 21 balls and alongwith Mahmudullah helped his side scrape past the winning line with six balls to spare.
World Cup 2007: Bangladesh beat India by five wickets
This was probably the biggest ODI upset that Bangladesh have pulled off till date, one that shook the cricketing world. India had been in the finals of the 2003 edition but four years later things were not the same anymore.
India went into the game as the overwhelming favourites even though there were reports of internal conflicts between the team.
Rahul Dravid won the toss and decided to bat but then realized what a grave mistake he had made. Bangladesh bowlers ripped through the batting line-up bowling them out for just 191. The only notable contributions came from the bat of Sourav Ganguly (66) and Yuvraj Singh (47).
With the bowling line that India had, many thought they could still win it. But then all hopes were shattered as Mushfiqur Rahim hit the winning runs in the third delivery of the 49th over.
World Cup 1999: Bangladesh beat Pakistan by 62 runs
Pakistan were a batting powerhouse back then with the likes of Saeed Anwar, Shahid Afridi, Ijaz Ahmed, Inzamam-ul-Haq and Saleem Malik in the team.
But Bangladesh somehow managed to pull of the improbable by bowling out Pakistan for just 161.
The latter chose to field after winning the toss and restricted Bangladesh to just 233 first. For such a famed batting line-up, 233 wasn’t even a challenging target but then Bangladesh speedster Khaled Mahmud had other ideas. The pacer finished with figures of 31/3 from his 10 overs and helped Bangladesh pull off something incredible in cricketing history.
