2017 World Water Day - Wednesday March 22,2017


World Water Day has been observed on March 22 since 1993 when the UN General Assembly declared March 22 as World Day for Water


In addition to the UN member states, a number of NGOs promoting clean water and sustainable aquatic habitats have used World Day for Water as a time to focus public attention on the critical water issues.

Friday March 22,2013 marks the 20th anniversary of World Water Day.The United Nations estimates that 783 million people do not have access to clean water while 2.5 billion do not have access to adequate sanitation.


The Theme for 2017 – Why Waste Water?which is about reducing and re-using waste water Wastewater is a valuable resource to help achieve the Sustainable Devlopment Goal Number 6. One aspect of Target 6.3 is to halve the proportion of untreated wastewater and also to increase the recycling and safe re-use of water across the globe.
