Day One Friday March 04,2017

India won the toss and chose to bat first

India's opening batsman Murali Vijay was on Saturday ruled out of the second Test against Australia after sustaining a shoulder injury  and replaced by his Tamil Nadu teammate Abhinav Mukund to open the batting with Lokesh Rahul.

Squads

India: Abhinav Mukund, Lokesh Rahul, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli (captain), Ajinkya Rahane, Karun Nair, Wriddhiman Saha (wicketkeeper), Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Umesh Yadav, Ishant Sharma
Australia: David Warner, Matt Renshaw, Steve Smith (captain), Shaun Marsh, Peter Handscomb, Mitchell Marsh, Matthew Wade (wicketkeeper), Mitchell Starc, Steve O'Keefe, Josh Hazlewood, Nathan Lyon

Australia's Off-spinner Nathan Lyon walked into the record books with career-best figures of 8 for 50 as
India suffered another batting debacle to be bundled out for a paltry 189 on the first day of the second cricket Test against Australia  in Bengaluru

Nathan Lyon's 8-50 is not just his career-best figures but also the sixth best Test figures by an Australian ever.

Previous best figures by visiting bowler in India, by Lance Klulsener 8/64, on his debut, at Eden Gardens in 1996-97 which Lyon has eclipsed.

Also Nathan Lyon becomes the highest wicket taker for Australia Vs India as  he now has 58 wickets in 12 matches against India so far, going past Lee, who took 53 wickets against India playing in the same number of matches.

Nathan Lyon - 58 wickets (12* Tests)
Brett Lee - 53 wickets (12 Tests)
Richie Benaud - 52 wickets (8 Tests)
Glenn McGrath - 51 wickets (11 Tests)
Mitchell Johnson - 50 wickets (14 Tests)
Graham McKenzie - 47 wickets (10 Tests)
Jason Gillespie - 43 wickets (10 Tests)
Shane Warne - 43 wickets (14 Tests)

NATHAN LYON REWRITES HISTORY IN BANGALORE

  • Lyon's haul was the best by a visiting Test bowler in India. He bettered South African all-rounder Lance Klusener's 8-64 in Kolkata in 1996
  • It was also the best innings figures of Lyon's career, bettering the 7-94 he claimed in Delhi during the 'homeworkgate' tour of 2013
  • Lyon extended his impressive record against Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli. The off-spinner has dismissed both batsmen five times. No Test bowler has been more successful against the pair
  • Lyon has now claimed a record 58 wickets in Border-Gavaskar battles. Brett Lee (53 wickets) was previously Australia's highest wicket-taker against India
  • Lyon needs eight more wickets to surpass Richie Benaud's career haul of 248 wickets. That would leave Shane Warne as the only spinner higher on Australia's list of most prolific Test bowlers

At stumps, Australia were comfortably placed at 40 for no loss with David Warner and Matt Renshaw were batting on 23 and 15 respectively

Day Two Saturday March 05,2017

A day after Nathan Lyon snapped eight wickets, Indian spinners R. Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja began Day 2 with a wicket each, dismissing opener David Warner for 33 and captain Steve Smith for 8. The visitors were 87/2 at lunch, in reply to India's total of 189.

At stumps, Australia’s score read 237/6 with Matthew Wade (25*) and Mitchell Starc (14*) at the crease which means a lead of 48 Runs

Ishant Sharma (1/39), Umesh Yadav (1/57), Ravindra Jadeja (3/49) and R Ashwin (1/75) all bowled their heart out, but bad luck and some poor reviews cost Virat Kohli and his boys as the Australians tightened their grip on the match.
