2017 Assembly Elections - Nothing right for the Left this election

There was a time, 1974 to be precise, when the Left parties in UP won as many as 16 assembly seats. 

The narrative has been very different since then.

 First, the numbers dwindled to single digits, off late there seems to be just no space left for the Left in UP -- no candidate has won a seat in 2007, 2012 and 2017. 

The story is not much different in Punjab and Manipur either. 

Here’s a look at the number of seats the Left fought this year, their vote share and number of votes it got.

 Does the downfall signal a sure demise?
