Mickey Mouse celebrates 88th birthday on November 18, 2016


Mickey Mouse! The cute, every cheerful little mouse with white gloves and a disarming charm, celebrates his 88th birthday on November 18, 2016. Created by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks at the Walt Disney Studios in 1928

Mickey Mouse became an instant favourite with the release of Steamboat Willie on November 18, 1928 — the first cartoon with synchronised sound.



This was when almost all the other studios were still producing silent films

Walt Disney initially wanted to name Mickey as "Mortimer Mouse" but decided against it, because his wife Lillian thought that "Mortimer" sounded too arrogant and suggested another name that reflected the qualities of humility and fun

Mickey Mouse started wearing his popular white gloves starting from a short video in Opry House released on March 28, 1929. Since then, he continued to wear it in most of his subsequent appearances

The first cartoon character to have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is Mickey Mouse on November 18, 1978 on the occasion of his 50th anniversary.

 The Mickey Mouse wrist watch is one of the most iconic Mickey Mouse products.

The first one was produced by the Ingersoll-Waterbury company in 1933, and it was sold for $2.95. The company presented Walt Disney with the 25-millionth Mickey Mouse watch in 1957.

Mickey appeared in “Mickey’s Kangaroo,” in black and white for the last time and appeared in "The Band Concert" on February 23, 1935, in colour for the first time.

One of his most famous roles is as the Sorcerer's Apprentice in his feature film debut Fantasia in 1940. In 1955, Mickey Mouse made his debut on television in the made his debut on television in The Mickey Mouse Club.

Walt Disney has never established any marital relations between Mickey and Minnie Mouse on screen. But during an interview in 1933, he had said, "In private life, Mickey is married to Minnie... What it really amounts to is that Minnie is, for screen purposes, his leading lady."
A tradition known as 'Hidden Mickeys" became largely popular after Disney Imagineers designed a Disney theme park and subtly "hid" Mickey Mouse silhouettes in absolutely plain sight

Walt Disney earned an honorary Academy Award in 1932 for the creation of Mickey Mouse. Walt Disney had famously said once, that "I only hope that we never lose sight of one thing—that it was all started by a mouse."
