Kenya delays closure of world's largest refugee camp - Dadaab refugee camp for Somalians Wednesday Nov 16,2016

 

Kenya said on Wednesday Nov 16,2016 it had to agreed to delay the closure of a huge Somali refugee camp that it sees as a security risk, after international pressure to give residents more time to find new homes.

The official said the camp was now home to about 250,000 people, while U.N. officials had put the figure at about 350,000 at the start of the year

More than half a million people lived there a few years ago

Having suffered multiple attacks claimed by the Islamist Somali group al-Shabab, Kenya has set up a taskforce to handle the closure plan, Interior Minister Joseph Nkaissery said
