Ariana Grande and Selena Gomez were two of the biggest winners at the 2016 American Music Awards on Sunday night Nov 20,2016

Ariana Grande pulled the shocking upset over Drake for the top prize of the night: Artist Of The Year at the gala event held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday night.

Selena Gomez was also a big winner as she bravely spoke about her anxiety and depression while accepting the coveted Favorite Female Pop/Rock Artist gong.

Earlier in the night Ariana and Nicki Minaj got together to perform hit Side To Side

Love train: It was quite the raunchy performance

Showing off: The performance was in a jungle setting 

Gigi Hadid was joined by co-host Jay Pharoah as they were the main presenters of the star-studded event

Gigi switched up her look as she accentuated her model legs in a jacket and tiny shorts 

Gigi's fifth outfit while hosting was black with a cutout at the chest and a thigh-high split

Gigi's last look of the night was very revealing

Drake was presented an award by his former Degrassi co-star Nina Dobrev

The rapper took home his first award of the night in the Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop prize category for his album Views

Nominees for the title of New Artist Of The Year were Alessia Cara, The Chainsmokers, DNCE, Shawn Mendes and Zayn Malik 

Ultimately it was 23-year-old Zayn Malik who took home the prize as he thanked his friends, fans and family as he said:  'I can't thank the people that have been with me every day for the past year enough.' 

Twenty One Pilots received the first award of the night for Favorite Pop/Rock Group/Duo
