2016 Rio Olympic Games in Brazil Aug 05-21,2016 - USA's Michael Phelps Wins his 23rd Gold Medal in the 4x100 Metres Medley Relay Saturday Aug 13,2016

The Olympics bid a rapturous farewell tonight to the greatest swimmer of all time as Michael Phelps won his 23rd gold medal.

Michael Phelps became more and more emotional in Rio as his final night in the pool neared, but on Saturday he finally let the tears flow as he stepped onto the podium for the final time.

Joined by teammates Ryan Murphy, Cody Miller and Nathan Adrian, Phelps helped set one last Olympic record in the Men's 4x100 medley relay. 

And Phelps' fiancee Nicole Johnson couldn't hold back her tears as she held their son Boomer and watched the Olympian's final race with his mother Debbie.

Team Phelps have already watched their man strike gold at Rio 2016 in the Men's 200m individual medley, the 200m butterfly, the 4x100m freestyle relay and the 4x200m freestyle relay.

The only blemish was the silver medal he picked up in the 100m butterfly when he was beaten by Joseph Schooling of Singapore
