A record that stood tall since 152 B.C. is now in the name of swimming legend from America, Michael Phelps, after he won his 22nd Olympic gold medal in 200m medley at the Rio Olympics on Thursday Aug 11,2016

Michael Phelps has kept Ryan Lochte off the top of the podium for the last time, scoring first in the 200m individual medley and nabbing his 22nd Olympic gold medal.

Lochte, who led the pack during the breaststroke, came in a surprising fifth in Thursday night's race

The most decorated Olympian of all time surged ahead of his competitors in the final lap, and made the number four with his fingers as he celebrated with a roaring Rio crowd that has not tired of seeing him win.

Michale Phelps has not lost the event since his Olympic debut in the 2004 Athens games, making it his fourth straight win.

Ryan Lochte, who came in fifth, failed to medal in the event for the first time since his Olympic career began, winning silver in the 2004 Athens and  2012 London and scoring a bronze in 2008 Beijing.
