Some Harry Potter fans have panned the
release of a new 'book' in the series - saying the fact that it is a
play rather than a novel means it does not live up to previous volumes.
The divided opinion comes after the
creator of the series, J.K. Rowling, was forced to clarify the format of
the book back in February because it had been called the 'eighth story'
by publisher Little, Brown.
Unlike the Harry Potter novels written by Rowling, this new script book had a different creation process.
The book cover says: 'Based on an original new story by JK Rowling
But the names 'John Tiffany and Jack
Thorne' are printed in smaller font underneath before it references the
stage production in even smaller font: 'A New Play by Jack Thorne'
Thorne is a British theatre, film and television writer while Tiffany is the play's director.
The trio collaborated on the plot before Tiffany and Thorne worked on the script, according to Rowling's Pottermore website.
While
stage production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child in London's West
End has received positive reviews from critics and fans, the reception
of the book version of the script has been more mixed.
Amazon shoppers have given the book 3.3 stars - well down on the
glowing response to the earlier Harry Potter novels which all scored
near 5-star ratings.
