t was on August 15, 1947 that India became a free nation. Continuing
with its tradition of commemorating events of historic significance,
Google has posted a special doodle on its India homepage on Monday Aug 15,2016
To mark the 70th Independence Day, Google is remembering Tryst with Destiny - the powerful speech delivered by the first prime minister of independent India - Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.
"Long years ago we made a tryst with destiny, and now that time comes when we shall redeem our pledge, not wholly or in full measure, but very substantially. At the stroke of today's midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom."
Nehru's speech marked the culmination of the Indian independence movement and today's doodle depicts the speech's historic delivery in the Parliament House before the Indian Constituent Assembly.
