Britain's Laura Robson
took a significant step forward in her career revival when she
qualified for the US Open by winning her eighth consecutive match.
The
former Wimbledon junior champion defeated Germany’s Tatjana Maria 7-6,
6-1 to take her place in the main draw, suggesting a long-awaited return
to being the player who was once in the world’s top 30.
Aside
from anything, she is now guaranteed a minimum £33,000 in prize money,
although the boost to her confidence will be something far more
valuable.
