Glastonbury organisers have urged people
planning to arrive by car or campervan to stay away until queues at the
site are cleared after heavy rain sparked traffic chaos and widespread
congestion.
One festival-goer said
their four-hour journey had taken almost a day to complete, while others
were pictured standing in the road after becoming stranded in a traffic
jam for up to 10 hours overnight. Social media users claimed some had
even abandoned their vehicles to walk to the site.
More
than 180,000 festival goers are expected to pour in over the rest of
the week to see hundreds of acts including headliners Muse, Adele and Coldplay on the famous Pyramid Stage.
But
many looking to get a head-start endured a nightmare few hours as they
became stranded in their vehicles - prompting a warning from organisers.
A
statement posted on the festival's Twitter feed this morning said: 'If
you are coming to the festival by car or campervan, and have yet to
begin your journey, please do not set off.'
