The Supreme Court of India(SCI)has restrained the government from going ahead with any further disinvestment of Hindustan Zinc
It has questioned the government's rationale for selling of 29 %
of valuable shares in the company which deals with strategic minerals.
The apex court said that it is not stopping Sterilite Vedanta which has taken over the company from carrying out investment.
Hindustan Zinc Limited (HZL)and Bharat Aluminium company Limited(BALCO)were strategically divested between 2000-01 and 2003-04,
with the Vedanta Group buying these companies. At present, the
government owns 29.54 % in HZL and 49 % in BALCO
