Charles Perrault - the 17th-century French author who wrote memorable fairy tales like the 'Cinderella' and 'Sleeping Beauty' was born 388 years ago on January 12.
Perrault spent most of his life in the court of Louis XIV but began writing his famous stories only in his late sixties after having retired.
Commemorating the birth anniversary of the academician, Google has posted doodles inspired by some of Perrault's famous works.
Doodler Sophie Diao has created tableaux for Perrault's 'Mother Goose' stories (Les Contes de ma Mère l'Oye, 1697): Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and Puss in Boots.

 

There are three different doodles for each of the stories which appear every time you open a new tab.
Perrault's original narratives are not the same as they are presented today in a variety of movies and theater acts which expel out the grizzly details. For example, the original version of the Little Red Riding Hood made it explicitly obvious that the 'wolf' was indeed a man who went after young girls who wander alone in the woods. Most of the classic stories as they were written back then have been reshaped with modern twists and subtlety to suit the audience.
