India and Australia are set to clash in an ODI and Twenty20 International series beginning on January 12. The series comprises of five ODIs and 3 Twenty20s. The last time the two teams met on field was for the 2015 World Cup semifinals.

In the 2011 World Cup quarterfinals, on March 24, 2011, India won the match by five wickets at Sardar Patel Stadium, Ahmedabad with Yuvraj Singh being named man-of-the-match. India went on to win the World Cup.

Usman khawaja replaces David Warner for the 2nd and 3rd ODI's

Usman Khawaja has been drafted into the Australian squad for the second and third ODIs against India as cover for David Warner, who goes on paternity leave. Warner and his wife Candice are expecting their second child very soon

Four of Usman Khawaja 's last seven innings in Test and Big Bash League cricket have been hundreds. He hit them back-to-back against New Zealand in Brisbane and Perth, but missed out on the Day-Night Test in Adelaide with a hamstring injury. A century in the BBL on his return proved there was no lingering discomfort and then plundered 144 and 56 in the Melbourne Test against West Indies a few days later.

India (295/6) have posted their highest total vs Australia at Melbourne in ODIs, eclipsing the 270 on January 9, 2004.

India have lost three out of the four series contested in ODIs since the ICC World Cup 2015, – one each to Bangladesh, South Africa and Australia – their only series victory being against Zimbabwe

Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan were involved in a stand of 119 – India’s highest second-wicket stand vs Australia a MCG, surpassing the 101 between Sunil Gavaskar and Dilip Vengsarkar on January 11,1981. The said partnership is India’s second highest for the second wicket at MCG next only to the 127 between Dhawan and Kohli vs South Africa on Februarty 22, 2015

Virat Kohli went past 7000 ODI runs as he overtook AB de Villiers to become the fastest to get to the milestone in terms of ODI innings.

Shikhar Dhawan (68) has recorded his third fifty vs Australia – his 16th in ODIs.Shikhar Dhawan’s aforesaid innings is his first fifty vs Australia in Australia, eclipsing the 45 at Sydney on March 26, 2015

Ajinkya Rahane, has posted three consecutive fifties for the first time in ODIs – 87 vs South Africa at Mumbai on October 25, 2015, followed by 89 at Brisbane on January 15 and 50 a Melbourne on January 17 – both vs Australia.
