Tata Steel has commissioned the first phase of its Kalinganagar steel plant in Odisha, the Tata group company informed stock exchanges on Wednesday. It will be the largest single-location greenfield project in India, Tata Steel said.
The first phase of the Kalinganagar steel plant will produce 3 million tonnes per annum of its total capacity of 6 million tonnes per annum, Tata Steel said. The Odisha plant will roll out flat, lighter, high-tensile strength steel, the Tata Group flagship company said.
Once the Kalinganagar plant is running at full capacity, it will augment Tata Steel's production to 13 million tonnes per annum, the company said.
The Kalinganagar steel plant has been built at an investment of over Rs 22,000 crore in the first phase, and the unit boasts of India's largest blast furnace at 4,330 cubic meter with production capacity of 3.2 MTPA, Tata Steel said
