2015 Bihar Assembly Elections - Facts to Know


1. Bihar Assembly Elections: The first phase of the polls recorded 57% voter turnout from 1.35 crore voters in 49 constituencies, while the second phase had 55% polling from 86.1 lakh voters in 32 seats.
2.Bihar Assembly Elections: The third phase had a poll percentage of 53% from 1.45 crore voters in 50 seats and the fourth phase recorded 57% turnout from 1.47 crore voters in 55 seats.
3. Bihar Assembly Elections: An estimated 60 per cent of over 1.55 crore voters cast their ballots in the fifth and final phase in Bihar Elections, the highest in the current election.
4. Bihar Assembly Elections: 57 assembly seats spread across nine districts — Madhubani, Darbhanga, Supual, Madhepura, Saharsa, Araria, Kisanganj, Purnea, and Katihar  — went to the polls in this final phase.
5. Bihar Assembly Elections: The exit polls were released on various TV channels after the fifth and final phase of polling ended on Thursday evening. Exit polls have given the JD(U)-RJD-Congress grand alliance a slight edge over the BJP-led NDA in the Bihar assembly elections, except for News 24-Today’s Chanakya, which has a contrasting finding and gives the NDA a determinative victory.
6. Bihar Assembly Elections: According to the News24-Today’s Chanakya poll, the NDA will get 155 seats while the grand alliance will get only 83 seats in the 243-member assembly. The C-Voter-Times Now exit poll has predicted 122 seats for the grand alliance and 111 seats for the BJP-led alliance.
7. Bihar Assembly Elections: According to the India Today-Cicero post-poll survey, the BJP alliance may win 113-127 seats, while the grand alliance will bag between 111 and 123 seats.
8. Bihar Assembly Elections: An exit poll by NewsX has predicted an outright defeat for the BJP, with the NDA winning only 95 seats, while the grand alliance has been given 130-140 seats.
9. Bihar Assembly Elections: Initial trends emerging from the post-poll survey done by Lokniti-CSDS (not an exit poll) for The Indian Express, indicate a distinct turnaround in favour of the Mahagathbandhan. The NDA seems to have slipped while the Gathbandhan seems to have gained momentum and taken a lead over the NDA.
10. Bihar Assembly Elections: As per the post-poll estimate done by Lokniti-CSDS, the Gathbandhan seem to have a lead of 4 per cent over the NDA. The Mahagathbandhan may end up with roughly 42 per cent of the votes while the NDA would have to lag behind with around 38 per cent votes
11It was for the first time that Central paramilitary forces, and not state police official, managed the five-phased Bihar Assembly polls.
The paramilitary forces were deployed in the state soon after the Election Commission announced the date for the elections.
To ensure smooth polling, the deployment of forces and allocation of their duties are decided following a discussion with the district administrations and polling officials.
The paramilitary forces include Border Security Force, Indo-Tibetan Border Police, Central Industrial Security Force, Central Reserve Police Force, Reserve Police Force and Sashastra Seema Bal
All the expenses of the paramilitary forces were borne by the state exchequer.
